Game Game Recap: In Volleyball, the JV team wrapped up their season last night pushing Kettle Run to 3 sets but falling short with scores of 25-15, 18-25, 6-15. They finish the season with a record of 11-9.
Varsity wrapped up the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Kettle Run and also are the Northwestern District Champions. Set scores were 25-9, 25-20, 25-12. The Colonels finished the regular season with a record of 17-3. Leading the Colonels was Kennedy Spaid with 15 kills, 11 digs, 5 aces, and 2 blocks, Tenley Mattison with 8 kills, 2 blocks, and an ace. Kylee Plumb with 22 assists and Brenna Corbin with 13 digs and 6 kills.
The Colonels will return to the court hosting the region 4D quarterfinals match on November 6th at 6pm. |

The James Wood JV volleyball finished their 21-22 season Thursday against Sherando with set scores 25-18, 25-23. They finished the season with a winning record of 13-6.
The Varsity team finished the regular season with a victory over Sherando as well. Set scores of 25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19. Leading the Colonels in Kills(11), aces (10) and assists (18) was senior captain Katey Matthews. Ella Kelchner had 4 solo blocks and 6 kills, Melia Burch added 8 kills, Hannah McCullough had 16 assists and Carsyn Vincent had 18 digs. The Colonels finished their regular season with a record of 15-5 and 10-2 in the district, putting them in 2nd place.
The NWD Tournament starts tonight as the Colonels host Liberty at 6:15. If Wood wins, they will host a semifinal match on Tuesday.
Both volleyball teams earned district wins over Fauquier on Thursday night, which was also the program's annual Dig Pink event.
JV won 25-22, 15-25, 15-11 improving their record to 10-4 on the season.

Varsity followed with a 25-23, 26-24, 25-17 win. Leading the Colonels was Katey Matthews with 10 kills, 13 assists and 10 digs. Kendall Funk added 8 kills, 2 blocks and 8 digs. Ella Kelchner also added 8 kills. Paige Ahakuelo added 9 assists and 3 aces and Carsyn Vincent had 16 digs.
Coach Patrick would like to thank all the teachers and students who helped support and raise funds for this Dig Pink event. The teams raised over $10,000 for the Side-Out Foundation which supports breast cancer research.
The Colonels are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Handley

The JV and varsity volleyball teams both earned road wins for the second straight night, defeating Sherando on Tuesday.
The JV team started the night with 2-1 win with set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 15-6.
Varsity followed with a 3-1 win with set scores of 25-23, 25-20, 15-25, 25-20. Katey Matthews led with 12 kills, 20 assists and 8 aces. Lexi Taylor and Paige Ahakuelo both added 7 kills apiece. Carsyn Vincent had 22 digs.
Come out and support the Colonels when they host Kettle Run on Thursday.

The varsity volleyball team defeated Jefferson, WV on the road on Monday to improve to 7-4 on the season. Game scores were 25-9, 26-24, 25-13. Katey Matthews and Ella Kelchner led the team with 8 kills a piece. Katey added 17 assists and 6 aces. Paige Ahakuelo added 6 kills and 5 aces. Carsyn Vincent had 22 digs.
The JV team also won 2-0 (25-23, 25-19) improving their season record to 6-4
The Colonels play at Sherando on Tuesday and then return home to host Kettle Run on Thursday

The varsity volleyball team lost to Millbrook in a closely contested match, 3-2 (16-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-11, 13-15). Leading the Colonels with kills (9) and assists (22) was Katey Matthews. Paige Ahakuelo had 7 kills, and Izzy Turner and Ella Kelchner had 6 each. Melia Burch had 20 digs and Carsyn Vincent had 25. Lexi Taylor added 5 blocks.
The JV team also lost to Millbrook 2-1 (29-27, 20-25, 8-15).
The Colonels are at Jefferson and Monday and at Sherando on Tuesday before returning home on Thursday to host Kettle Run.

JV and Varsity volleyball both pulled off wins last night against Independence from Loudoun County. JV won 2-0 with set scores of 25-17, 25-13. Varsity won 3-1 with set scores of 25-12, 25-17, 21-25, 28-26. Leading the Colonels was Katey Matthews with 8 kills, 19 assists, 6 digs and 3 aces. Lexi Taylor added 7 kills, Izzy Turner had 6 kills, and Addie Pitcock had 6 kills and 5 aces. Carsyn Vincent had 17 digs.
Both teams are 5-3 for the season, and they host Millbrook on Thursday night.

The volleyball teams traveled to Kettle Run on Tuesday night and picked up district wins. The JV team won in two games, 27-25 and 25-12. The varsity team won a tightly contested match 19-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-12, 15-13 Ella Kelchner and Melia Burch both led the Colonels with 8 kills each. Melia also had 9 digs. Ella and Khloe Anderson had 2 blocks apiece. Katey Matthews added 15 assists, 5 aces and 8 digs. Caitlyn Shutts also added 9 digs and 3 aces
Both teams are 3-1 for the season. They travel to North Hagerstown on Thursday.

The JV and varsity volleyball teams both won their home openers on Thursday night against Heritage. Varsity swept Heritage in 3 games (25-18, 25-18, 25-21). The JV team dominated game one 25-8 but Heritage fought back to take game two and pushed the Colonels to the end in game three, 16-14. Both teams are 1-1 for the season and will host Handley on Tuesday night.
