Former James Wood Athletic Director Jerry "Jake" Kelican has died after a long illness.
Mr. Kelican was an outstanding football coach at James Wood. He served as head coach for 11 years and had an overall record of 75-31-5, and all of those years were at the AAA level. He was athletic director from 1985-1999 and was voted the state athletic director of the year in 1997. He helped oversee the completion of the football stadium and field house complex in 1990 and the baseball stadium in 1998. For his many years of service to James Wood, the football stadium was named in his honor in 1999. He was inducted into the James Wood Hall of Fame in 2002.
Coach Kelican was an outstanding teacher, role model, coach, and administrator. James Wood High School owes much to what he gave to the school and to our Colonels teams and athletes. Thursday night's games in baseball, softball, soccer, and tennis are all being played in his honor.
Arrangements will be updated at this link as soon as they become available.
