The girls' basketball team bounced back from a rough home loss last week to Millbrook by beating Fauquier and Warren County in back-to-back games. On Friday, the Colonels defeated district opponent Fauquier 55-27. Makayla Firebaugh led the team with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Donyell Sloane and Emma Van Horn each scored 8, Brenna Prunty had 7, and Savannah Swanner added 6. Sloane added 9 rebounds and Firebaugh, Van Horn, and Prunty each had 4 steals.
On Saturday, Wood upended the Wildcats 64-36. Firebaugh again led the team with 34 points and added 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Amber Wooldridge scored 13, Sloane scored 8, and Jenny Kerns added 5 to go with 5 steals in her first game back from an ankle injury.
The Colonels have a busy district road schedule this week with games at Handley on Tuesday, at Liberty in a make-up game on Wednesday, and at Kettle Run on Friday.
