Two James Wood seniors signed National Letters of Intent to play collegiate football on Wednesday, February 7 in the school library.
Elijah Filbert signed with Division I Wagner College in Staten Island, New York to play football for the Seahawks. Elijah is the son of Robert and Kim Filbert. He has played football at James Wood all four years with the past two on the varsity team, lettering both years. His athletic honors include being a team captain in 2017 and earning the Northwestern District All-Academic Award both years on varsity. Elijah finished his 2017 senior season with 53 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 2 fumble recoveries. His other school activities include French Club, National Honor Society, Varsity Club, and peer tutoring. He has also volunteered for projects with NHS and Bright Futures. He currently holds a 3.73 GPA and is undecided on a major.
Mark Cisler signed with Division II Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia. Mark is the son of Ann Latta and William Cisler. Mark has played all four years at Wood, with 2 years as a varsity starter. He finished the 2017 season with 66 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception on defense as an inside linebacker. On offense, Cisler rushed 71 times for 304 yards, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. He had 3 touchdowns this season, with one overtime touchdown at Skyline to win the game. He also had 3 receptions for 25 yards. He holds a 3.88 GPA and plans to major in Exercise Science.
