Athletes from the James Wood HS Indoor Track & Field Team competed in the Region 4C Championship on Friday, Feb 9th, at Hagerstown Community College. Rene Rosso had the top performances of the night with wins in the High Jump & 55m Hurdles, and 3rd place finishes in the 55m Dash and 300m Dash. Dominic Revetta was 2nd in the Shot Put, and the team of Tyler Ostinato, Bryce Ratlief, Nathan Shade, and Jacksen Costa finished 3rd in the 4x800m Relay.These athletes will represent James Wood HS at the State Championship at Roanoke College in Salem, VA, on the 23rd & 24th of February. They will be joined by Brooke Sandy, who had already qualified to compete in the State Championship but did not place in the Region Championship. The team still has an opportunity to qualify more athletes for the state championship this Wednesday (Feb 14), when the Long Jump & Triple Jump will be contested.
In swimming, Brian Hua and Kimberly Warnagiris will represent James Wood at the 4A State Championships in Richmond this coming weekend. Kim placed 4th in the 200 individual medley at the 4C Regional Championships this past Friday in 2:10.16 and 3rd in the 100 yard butterfly in :57.45 which also improved her school record in the event. Brian placed 9th in the 100 yard butterfly in :56.00, which met the state qualifying standard.
The Colonels advanced five wrestlers from the 4C Regional Championship which was held on Friday at Sherando. Aaron Curd won the 152 pound division, Luke Roy placed 2nd at 195, Josh Arce (120) and Joey Vitola (138) placed third, and Vince Caruso placed fourth at 113 pounds. The team placed 3rd overall with 139 points.
