James Wood senior Rene Rosso captured gold in the 100 meter hurdles at the VHSL 4A State Championships on Saturday. Events at the two-day meet have been postponed on both Friday and Saturday due to thunderstorms and rain, with only a few events contested on those days. Rosso entered as the number two seed but won the title with a personal best and school record :14.77. With events starting at 8:30 AM on Sunday morning, junior Chance Grove placed 3rd in the boys' discus competition with a throw of 152'10".
UPDATE 10:15 AM: Rosso just captured her second state title by winning the long jump with a leap of 17'7". She went on to place 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles, tied for 2nd in the high jump, and 5th in the triple jump.
William Crowder placed 8th in the 100 meter dash, and Dominic Revetta was 7th in the shotput.
