The James Wood competition cheer team placed 2nd in last Thursday's Conference 21 West Mini Tournament at Woodgrove High School. The tournament was a preview for the October 18 championship at James Wood and determined the performance order for the championship. Millbrook won the tournament but the Colonels closed ground in the rubric scoring from prior head-to-head matchups. Full scoring was as follows:

With the post-season approaching, the Colonels cheerleaders continued to show improvement on Saturday. The team scored a 226 to narrowly defeat host Brentsville, which scored 223. The tournament was an excellent preview of what may lie ahead for the Colonels in regional competition with top schools from other districts also competing. Complete scores were:
