The James Wood competition cheer team placed second at Wednesday's Region 4C Cheerleading Championship, held in the Donald H. Shirley Gymnasium. A huge home crowd helped propel the team to a top-four finish in the preliminary round along with eventual champion Riverside, Millbrook, and Sherando. The team held its spot in the final round as they improved their score while holding off Millbrook and Sherando, who also had improved performances in the final. The team will now head to VCU on November 3 for the 4A State Championship. Information on the state tournament can be found at on the VHSL website at
