The James Wood competition cheer team capped off an outstanding season with a 3rd place finish at the VHSL 4A State Championships at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Grafton High School placed first with a score of 267.5, edging Region 4C champion Riverside by two points to win the title. Riverside scored the highest among the eight competing teams in the first round at 275. James Wood scored 241.5, and fourth place William Byrd scored 238.5. The placing caps off a season that saw the Colonels win the Northwestern District title and earn a runner-up finish in Region 4C.
