The boys’ and girls’ Indoor Track & Field Teams competed on Friday, January 4, in the Western Maryland Winter Indoor Track Classic at Hagerstown Community College.
The girls finished 8th of 16 teams. Several athletes had notable performances. Olivia Walker finished 2nd in the 1600m run, and her time of 5:39.83 puts her #4 on the all-time list for Indoor. Brooke Sandy tied for 3rd in the high jump with a state-qualifying mark of 5’ 0” (her 2nd time jumping that high this season). The girls’ 4x800m relay team of Audrey Sandy, Olivia Walker, Elena Farinholt, and Kenzie Konyar finished 2nd; their time of 10:37.00 is now #1 on the all-time list for Indoor, breaking a record that had stood since 1992 (when our jumps coach Caroline Sandy was on that record-holding team). The girls’ 4x400m Relay team of Audrey Sandy, Elena Farinholt, Mia Johnson, and Riley Rose finished 6th.
The boys were 11th of 16 teams. There were several notable performance by the boys. Drake Tews finished 2nd in the high jump with a state-qualifying mark (and personal record) of 6’ 2”; this jump tied him for #1 all-time with a record that has stood since 1990. Logan Owens finished 5th in the 55m hurdles. Lastly, the boys’ 4x800m relay team of Caleb Kemer, Chris White, Nathaniel Woshner, and Liam McDonald finished 6th.
