James Wood began regular-season play on Tuesday night.
The varsity baseball team fell in a close game to Dominion, 5-3. Sophomore Aden Payne started on the mound throwing 3 2/3 innings allowing four hits with seven strikeouts and four earned runs. Senior Jacob Bell came in relief shutting down the Titans for 2 1/3 allowing 2 hits with 5 strikeouts. The Colonels' bats came through early in the game with a double to right center by Colby Monroe and down the left field line by Kevin Brown. Four other hitters reached on singles: Tyler McBride, Lucas Whitacre, Jayden Nixon, and Aden Payne. Colby Monroe led the team with two RBI’s and Kevin Brown added one RBI. The baseball team looks for revenge next Monday as they host Dominion at 6:00 PM.
The varsity boys' soccer team defeated the Clarke County Eagles 6-0. Chris Garcia had two goals and two assists, and Nate Dansie scored one with two helpers. The JV boys' team defeated Clarke 1-0 with Spencer Byrge scoring the lone goal with 3:00 remaining in the game. The teams travel to Sherando on Friday.
The varsity girls' soccer team beat Clarke 3-0 behind two goals from Katie Padgett and one from Kaylah Gankiewicz. Katelyn Mounts had two assists and Olivia Walker had one. Sadie Kerns made four saves for the shutout. The next game matches for the Colonels will be at home on Friday when they host Sherando. The JV team won 1-0 on a goal by Lily Shutz with the assist by Ella Myers.
The boys' tennis team defeated Clarke after sweeping all nine matches. Jonah Borromeo (8-1), Cole Creamer (8-1), Jacob Gregg (8-5), Ben Ondeck (8-2), Kevin Cruz (8-1), and Eli Mattingly (8-2) picked up singles wins. Borromeo/Gregg, Creamer/Ondeck, and Cruz/Mason Heustis earned doubles wins. The team will face Sherando on Friday.
