The Boys’ & Girls’ Outdoor Track & Field teams competed this past Friday & Saturday in the Region 4C Track & Field Championship at John Handley High School. The boys were 4th overall, and the girls were 6th in the team standings.
The boys had several state-qualifying performances:

Will Crowder was 2nd in the 100m Dash & 4th in both the 200m Dash & Long Jump. He had already run a state-qualifying time in the 100m Dash and jumped a state-qualifying jump during the regular season.

Lavaughan Freeman was 2nd in the High Jump. He had already jumped a state-qualifying height earlier in the season.

Chance Grove was 3rd in the Discus Throw and 4th in the Shot Put; however, he had already thrown a state-qualifying mark in both events earlier in the season.

Drake Tews was 3rd in the Long Jump. He was also 5th in the High Jump, which didn’t advance him on place; however, he had already jumped a state-qualifying mark earlier in the season, and his jump of 6’ 0” was also a state-qualifying height.

Josh Arce was 4th in the 3200m Run.

The 4x100m Relay team of Drake Tews, Lavaughan Freeman, Jackson Clyburn, & Will Crowder were 3rd.

The 4x400m Relay team of Jackson Clyburn, Logan Owens, Gavin McDonald, & Lavaughan Freeman were 3rd.
The girls also had several state-qualifying performances:

Mackenzie Konyar was 2nd in the 3200m Run.

Ja’Niyah Stovall was 4th in the 400m Dash. Her time of 1:00.96 puts her #5 on the James Wood all-time list in the event.

Brooke Sandy was 4th in the High Jump.

Audrey Sandy was tied for 5th in the High Jump, which didn’t advance her on place; however, her jump of 5’ 0” was a state-qualifying mark, earning her the right to compete in the state championship.

Kaitlyn Poppo was 9th in the High Jump; however, she already had a state-qualifying jump of 5’ 0” at the District Championship and will compete at the State Championship.

The 4x400m Relay team of Riley Rose, Mia Johnson, Faith Gansor, & Ja’Niyah Stovall were 4th.

The 4x800m Relay team of Lauren Beatty, Riley Rose, Haley Witt, & Kenzie Konyar were 3rd.
The top four individuals and relay teams in each event advanced to the state meet, and athletes could also advance by meeting state qualifying standards. The 4A state meet will be on Friday and Saturday at Liberty University.
