The James Wood varsity basketball team had yet another down-to-the-wire win and this time Jaden Ashby stepped up to knock down two clutch free throws with 0.9 sec on the clock to put the Colonels over the top with a 53-52 win over Warren county. Leading scorers for the Colonels were Carson Baker and Lavaughan Freeman with 13 points each, while Jacob Medina and Jaden Ashby each scored 9. The Colonels are 10-3 overall and play Sherando on Friday. Come out and support!
The varsity girls had an impressive win over the Wildcats, 80-27. Four players scored double figures, led by Makayla Firebaugh with 16, Brenna Prunty and Brynna Nesselrodt both with 14, and Olivia Miller with 12. Emma Bursey added 8 points, Sarah Costin and Kayla Relihan both scored 4 points. Rounding out the scoring were Ellie Nichols with 2 points and Jenny Kerns with 1 point.
The JV girls scored early and often, cruising to a 56-12 win. The JV boys' team suffered a close loss to Warren County, 54-50. Cole Stowers led the team with 17 points and Chris Morrison scored 14.
All four teams will host Sherando on Friday night with varsity girls and JV boys tipping at 6:00 and varsity boys and JV girls to immediately follow.
