The James Wood boys' basketball team pulled off a huge win on Senior Night over top-ranked Millbrook, 58-46. Senior James Cornwell led the Colonels with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Lavaughan Freeman had 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals. Jaden Ashby had 9 points. The Colonels finished the regular season 13-9 overall and 8-6 in district, which tied for second. They will play host to Kettle Run next Thursday as the tournament #3 seed. Great job Colonels, and congratulations to the 7 seniors--Ethan, James, Jerome, Tyrome, Jackson, Steve and Lavaughan--and our manager Mikayla on their tremendous night!
The girls' varsity team defeated the Pioneers 67-59 in not only one of the biggest wins in school history, but also one of the all-time best seasons at 20-2. Brenna Prunty led the scoring with her season-high 23 points. Makayla Firebaugh added 17 points and Brynna Nesselrodt chipped in 16. The win puts the Lady Colonels in a tie for 1st place with Millbrook for the regular season. The two teams will face off again Monday night at Sherando with a game time of 7:00 to determine the #1 tournament seed. What a thrilling way to send off our senior players.
