The Colonels survived their regional quarterfinal match on Monday night against Fauquier and moved on to Thursday's semifinal round. James Wood did not play as sharp as it had in winning two conference tournament matches but was able to overcome several deficits to win in close games. It looked like it might be a quick night after the Colonels jumped out to a 15-10 lead in game one, but the Falcons rallied and outscored Wood 15-5 from that point to take game one, 25-20. It took extra points for Wood to win game two, 26-24, and they gained momentum in game three with a 25-20 win. In game four, however, Fauquier took an early 8-3 lead, but the Colonels rebounded to seal the match with a 25-23 win.
James Wood will now host a familiar rival in Heritage High School on Thursday night with match time at 7:00 PM. The Pride advanced with their win over Salem. On the other side of the bracket, #1 seeded Loudoun County defeated Millbrook 3-2, and Liberty Christian defeated Freedom 3-0.
