The Colonels volleyball team continued its magnificent season in heart-wrenching fashion on Thursday night with a 3-2 victory over Heritage. James Wood looked as though it would make it a quick evening, coming out on fire and dropping the Pride 25-10 in game one. Game two offered a preview of what the rest of the night would be like as Heritage battled back from an early deficit and pushed Wood to extra points before the Colonels prevailed 26-24. Heritage continued with the momentum from game two while the Colonels struggled and gave game three to the Pride 25-20. The teams traded points throughout game four and the Colonels could not finish out the match on match points and fell 28-26. Heritage then jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held a 10-4 advantage before Wood stormed back to win game five 15-11.
James Wood will now travel to Loudoun County on Saturday for the 4A West Championship with start time at 6:00 PM. Thursday's win also puts the Colonels back into the 4A state playoffs, with semifinal matches on Tuesday and the championship on Saturday at VCU. The East and West champions will host the runner-up from the opposing region on Tuesday. Please check back at this site on Sunday for Saturday's results and state playoff information.
