The girls' soccer team advanced to its first ever regional final game Monday by defeating Loudoun County High school 3-1 on Monday night. Katelyn Mounts scored the first goal and Sidney Rathel scored the second. Olivia Walker assisted in both. Olivia scored later in the second half assisted by Mounts. The defense led by Julia Watts dominated Loudoun. Sadie Kerns had 6 big saves in the victory. The Lady Colonels take on the winner of the postponed Handley vs. Dominion game which will be replayed Tuesday night.
The baseball team advanced to the region final by beating Heritage 3-2 in extra innings on Monday. Nick Bell recorded the win in relief, going 4 innings and allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, and 5 strikeouts. Kaden Spaid started and went 4 innings, allowing 4 H, 2 R, and 6 K’s.
Spaid, who was 2-4 in the game, 2 RBI, hit the walkoff double to score Jacob Roy for the winning run. Jayden Nixon was 2-4, Bodie Pullen was 1-4 with a run and RBI and a stolen base. Roy and Luke Gross scored 1 run each. This was the first regional win for the baseball team since 1985, and they now travel to Broad Run for the championship game on Wednesday.
Wood will travel to Broad Run on Wednesday to play for the Region Championship.
