The varsity baseball team defeated Sherando 6-1 behind the pitching of Nick Bell. Bell pitched a complete-game 4 hitter, allowing 1 unearned run, 0 walks, and 14 K’s. The Colonels improved to 7-3 on the season and are back on the diamond tomorrow at Musselman.
The JV baseball team improved to 7-1 in Walk-Off fashion with a 7-6 win over rival Sherando. Deuce Strosnider got the rally started with a double, followed by a single RBI by Garrett McAlexander. Colin Thomas scored off a scorching double by Jacob Harty, and Brayden Rockwell brought in the winning run with a line drive to center field. Brock Whipkey earned the win on the mound after a great performance by Garrett McAlexander.
The JW Girls’ Soccer Team continued their unbeaten run this season with a 3-0 win over Sherando at home Tuesday night. Sidney Rathel started the scoring 1 minute into the match. Jolie Jenkins scored 13 minutes later when McKenna Newcome slotted a beautiful ball to her on the run. Rathel scored in the last minute of the game of a short corner kick form Olivia Walker. Sami Stevens had 6 saves in her second shutout of the season. The Lady Colonels move to 10-0 (6-0 in the district). The JV team also beat Sherando off another upper 90 goal from Hailey Hall! Alexis Woodward recorded 9 saves in goal with her first shutout of the season.
The varsity softball team beat Sherando 11-10. Cadence Rieg started and went 3 & 1/3 innings with 4 strikeouts, then Ellie Johnson came in and shut it down finishing the remainder 3 & 2/3 innings with 3 strikeouts and didn't allow a hit. At the plate the Colonels were led by Cadence Rieg 3-4 with a HR double and 2 rbis, Laken Whipkey 2-4 double with 3 rbis, and Ellie Johnson 3-4. Izzy Mckee was 3-5, Sadie Kittoe was 2-3 with a double and rbi, and Syd Orndorff was 2-4 double 2 rbis. Skyla Compton was 1-3 with a walk and game tying rbi.
The boys' soccer team defeated Sherando by a score of 1-0. Jon Resendiz had the game -inning goal and Dashawn Paige had the assist. Ben Tanger and the backline of Bowman, Frigaard, Barnhart, King and Lopez combined for their 6th shutout of the season. The Colonels are 6-3-1 on the season. The JV team battled to a 1-1 tie with the Warriors. Ian Longo scored and Jacob DeHaven had the assist. Zach Myers made 5 saves and helped improve the Colonels to 4-3-3 on season.
