The James Wood baseball team advanced to the 4A state title game by defeating Monacan 6-5 today. The game was tied 3-3 going into the 7th inning and with Monacan scoring two runs in the top half, things looked bleak for the Colonels. After stringing together several hits, the team advanced runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out--representing the tying and winning runs. Catcher John Copenhaver laced a single up the middle to score both runs, setting off a wild celebration on the field and among the many Wood students, parents, and alumni who had made the trip to the game.
The Colonels will now face Jefferson Forest or Hanover in the championship game on Saturday starting at 11:00 AM. The title game will again be played at Riverbend High School, which is serving as the 4A VHSL Jamboree site. Ticket price is $10.00 and can be purchased by visiting GoFan and entering "VHSL" in the school box.
GO COLONELS!
