The James Wood Girls Soccer team traveled to defending state champions Brentsville Tuesday night and improved to 6-3-1 with an OT 2-2 tie. Grace Rivas Zelaya scored in the 35th minute after receiving a ball from Sloane Ferrebee and putting a banger in the back of the net. In the second half Brentsville converted a free kick in the 64th minute which eventually sent the game into overtime. Maddie Shirley scored off an Ava Manzo rebound 3 minutes in. The Tigers scored on another free kick as OT expired. The Lady Colonels host Fauquier on Thursday.
Varsity boys soccer knocked off Brentsville 5-2. Colonels were led by Brayden Pineda (2 goals, 1 assist), Daylin Paige (2 goals), Santiago Rojas (1 goal, 1 assist), Owen Swiger and Jesus Hernandez (1 assist each). JV boys soccer had a dominant 6-0 win over the Tigers. The boys' teams travel to Fauquier on Friday.
Sherando beat James Wood 7-6. Down 7-3 in the seventh, the Colonels rallied with three runs in the bottom half and had the tieing and winning runs on base before falling short in the comeback. Emma Hild started and threw 1.1 innings. Kati Brannon came in relief and pitched 4.2 innings with 9 strikeouts and Sophia Gerald came in relief in the 7th striking out 2. Brynnen Williams was 3-4 with a double and RBI, Molly Maynard was 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs, and Kayleigh Harden was 2-4 with a RBI. Aubrey Nail was 2-3. The Colonels host Warren County on Friday night.

Strong Start Not Enough for James Wood JV Softball
The James Wood JV Colonels came out swinging against Sherando on Tuesday, jumping to an early 4-0 lead. Sophia Rohrbach and Reece Madagan each smashed doubles to drive in runs, and Marlee Gilbert crushed a solo home run in the second inning!
Madagan and Taliah Sheppard led the team with two hits each, while Taylor Fishel added energy on the base paths with two stolen bases. Despite a tough 6-4 loss, the Colonels showed grit and power at the plate.
GAME 2:
Dominant Win for James Wood JV Softball!
The James Wood JV Colonels shut out Sherando with a 10-0 victory on Tuesday! Maggie Maynard was lights out in the circle, striking out 9 batters over five scoreless innings.
Offensively, the Colonels exploded in the third inning, with big hits from Reece Madagan (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), Taliah Sheppard, Marleigh Dehaven, and Sophia Rohrbach. The team showed discipline at the plate with 7 walks and ran wild with 15 stolen bases, led by Marlee Gilbert, Ryleigh Lauck, and Taylor Fishel.
Flawless defense capped off the win with a double play and zero errors. Next up: James Wood heads to Spring Mills on Thursday!
