The James Wood Girls Soccer Team beat Millbrook 2-1 on a rainy Monday night. The girls improve to 10-3-2 for the season. After going down 0-1 in the second half Maddie Shirley finished a corner kick to tie it up putting in Eva DeMattei’s rebound. Mary Kimble scored a beautiful left footed goal with 1 minute to play when she received a pass from Ava Manzo, dribbled through three players, and buried the ball in the bottom corner. Alaynah McGuire had 3 saves in the match. The Lady Colonels celebrate Senior Night on Thursday when they host Sherando.

James Wood beat Millbrook 4-1 in varsity softball. Kati Brannon started and threw 4.2 innings with 9 strikeouts. Sophia Gerald threw 2.1 innings in relief with 3 strikeouts. Brynnen Williams was 3-4, Molly Maynard was 2-4 with 2 doubles and a RBI, and Kayleigh Harden was 2-3 with a walk. Sophia Gerald was 1-4 with a double and 2 RBIs, Kati Brannon was 1-3 with a double, and Gabby Madagan was 1-2 with a RBI. Aubrey Nail was 1-3 and Aliza Judd added 2 walks. The Colonels travel to Handley tomorrow night.
The James Wood JV Colonels softball team came out swinging on Monday, defeating Millbrook 12-2 behind a monster performance from Taylor Fishel, who crushed a home run in the second inning and drove in two runs to ignite the offense. James Wood jumped to an early lead with big hits from Reece Madagan, Marleigh Dehaven, and Taliah Sheppard, who each added RBIs. The offense continued to roll with a five-run third inning, including key hits from Marlee Gilbert, Sophia Rohrbach, and Sheppard again. On the mound, Karly Easterday delivered a strong start, giving up just one hit and no earned runs over five innings. The Colonels collected 11 hits and showed great discipline at the plate, earning 7 walks, with Sadey Hawkins and Easterday drawing two apiece. Fishel, Sheppard, Maynard, and Gilbert all had multi-hit games.
