James Wood senior Aaron Black won his second state wrestling title on Saturday by defeating his nemesis, Kyle Budd from Fauquier, in the 120 pound VHSL final. Black had beaten Budd in last year's regional championship, only to fall in a rematch at the state final as Budd came from behind to capture the title. Budd again was victorious in last weekend's 4A West Regional Championship, winning 1-0. Black, however, had the last word by winning 2-1 in the championship round at Salem. The win caps a stellar career for Black, who won the 106 pound title as a freshman, then finished 2nd and 3rd in his sophomore and junior years before returning to the top of the podium this year. Black finished the season at 33-1--the sole loss coming to Budd in the regional final.
Also placing for the Colonels was senior Bailey Eichelberger who placed 5th in the 170 pound division.
